Can a social enterprise get a grant?
A community-interest company can apply where the scheme allows it. Lottery programmes such as Awards for All are written for community benefit, not for private profit. A trading CIC that wants a machine for a commercial contract is usually in the business queue, and many of those schemes do not mind the legal form as much as the project. Is a CIC a charity?
No. The rules, the regulator and the tax treatment differ. Do not tick 'charity' on a form unless you are one.
