What is the Disabled Facilities Grant?

The Disabled Facilities Grant helps pay for adaptations so a disabled person can live in their home. In England the council runs it and the usual maximum is £30,000. It is not a business grant. A landlord can apply for a tenant. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own versions, so do not use the English rules outside England.

Who decides?

The council, after an assessment of whether the works are necessary and appropriate, and after a means test for most adults. Find Grants does not assess the home and does not pay the builder.

Where is the official page?

GOV.UK publishes the English scheme. Start there, then the council for the address. The catalogue row links to that page.
